& History of Naxos
Naxos is known for its rich history. Based on Greek mythology, Zeus, the king of gods, grew up in Naxos, alongside Dionysus, the god of wine, who made the island the most fertile land of Cyclades. That’s why today we get to taste the majestic taste and quality of the vineyards in Naxos. God Apollo was also worshiped on the island with his temple being one of the most known and visited landmarks.
In ancient times, Naxos was the center of cycladic civilization and due to the strategic location of the island, sea trading and wealth were synonyms to the island’s growth.
Moving on to the Venetian Period, under the rule of the Dukes, Naxos experienced another long period of development, making it difficult for the Turks in 1564 to establish on the island. However, in 1831, Naxos was part of the liberated New Greek State and since then, the island keeps flourishing.
